The direction of the magnetic field due to current in a straight conductor is given by maxwell's right hand thumb rule.

if a straight current carrying wire is imagine to be held in the right hand with the thumb stretched along a direction of the current the direction of the magnetic field produced by the current is in the direction in which the fingers are curled.

This rule is also called maxwell's corkscrew rule suppose the tip of a rotating corkscrew advances in the direction of the current then the direction of rotation of its handle give the direction of the current.
