Illustrate reasons for The Europeans wanted spices so much that they sent explorers to DIFFERENT COUNTRIES to try and get them.

There are three main reasons for European Exploration. Them being for the sake of their economy, religion and glory. They wanted to improve their economy for instance by acquiring more spices, gold, and better and faster trading routes. Also, they really believed in the need to spread their religion, Christianity.

Perhaps the most famous and successful of Portugal's explorers was Vasco da Gama. His crew set sail in the 1490s south toward the Cape of Good Hope in Africa. His ships rounded the cape and went north toward India. The voyage took two years, but da Gama returned laden with spices.
