As per the report of the Forest department, nearly 781 forest fire incidents were reported in the state. Of the 781 incidents, 289 fire incidents were reported in Kashmir and 492 in Jammu.
Natural fire events:
- In the year 2018, massive forest fire occurred in Bandipore, Kupwara, Ganderbal and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
- In the year 2017, 50 hectares of Tanpal forest was demolished due to forest fire.
- In the year 2016, there was a wildfire in Trikuta Hills near the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
Events of Natural fire in Jammu & Kashmir:
Following are the events of naturally erupted fires in Jammu & Kashmir state,
March 2018 – Naturally erupted fire engulfed the forests of four districts in Jammu & Kashmir. Those districts were namely, Kupwara, Bandipore, Ganderbal with Anantnag.
May 2016 – Forest fire erupted naturally spread towards the Trikuta Hills in Jammu & Kashmir which is nearest to the Maa Vaishno Devi shrine.
June 2014 – Fire broke out at many places in Jammu & Kashmir with surprisingly no casualty found in the forest near the LoC region of Jammu.
