The Indian Judiciary was basically formed from the legal system set up by the British and other colonial powers. Since then, it has partly retained the main characteristics, though several modifications and amendments to the system, have been brought about.

The Jury System was the first to go as it was found to be highly biased, when it came to the case of British or foreign subjects. It was abolished in 1958 by The Indian Law Commission.
