sound wave can travel in liquid and gases medium.. it need particles to travel.. there are two types of waves longitudinal and transverse. in longitudinal particles goes in back and forth postion. and in liquid particles travels in up and down postion

ya sound wave requires a medium to travel...suppose a bomb exploding inside a house where it is totally leaked with air right than it sound does not travel outside....and suppose when u also speak on moon to another people he or she can't hear U....that's why sound required a medium to travel....
