This is a strong feeling of affection towards a person. It is well brought out in the novel through a number of cases.
Ole Kaelo loves his wife Mama Milanoi so much.Ever since when he first saw her ,he fell in love with her and twenty two years later, he still is in love with her."From the moment he saw her,he had been obsessed. And against all odds and despite all efforts he was still so obsessed twenty-two years later.
There is love between Taiyo and her father.Unlike her sister Resian,Taiyo enjoys the love of her father. She is the apple of his eye and he really appreciates everything she does.It is no wonder he is willing to sacrifice Resian so as to save his daughter Taiyo,he had agreed, she had to go."
We also see love between Taiyo and Joseph.Although their love is forbidden by culture by culture, the two love one another and cannot hide it. Taiyo goes looking for Joseph in his house where she confesses her love for him.He too confesses her love for him.He too confesses that he loves her very much. They promise to fight for this love but Joseph backs out since he is not ready to go against his culture. However the love does not die. This is clear from the fact that Joseph is killed while trying to help the team sent by Emakererei to rescue her after she is forcefully circumcised.
Taiyo and Resian love each other. The love is so much evident from Taiyo's side since she is always there to console, protect and listen to her sister. It is no wonder that for the Esoit to convince her to go with them;they had to mention Resian knowing too well that Taiyo would do anything for her.
