Theme Statement
This is a lyric poem. It is based on the feeling of hope. The poet hopes that one day people will have same beliefs, there will be no conflict and the world will be a peaceful place.
Expository Paragraph
In the poem "Imagine" by John Lennon the poet imagines a peaceful world. He hopes that people should live peacefully without conflict. It tells that if we imagine that there are no countries then we would have nothing to kill or die for. If people were nicer to one another then there would be no war. Instead of having boundaries that divide us the poet believes we should live as one and share the world. But the poet does call himself a dreamer which is why this poem is based on hope. In conclusion, the poet wants people to follow his dream so that that the world will be a peaceful place.
Literary Devices Paragraph
There are many literary devices in the poem 'Imagine" by John Lennon. The main one is Refrain. The word Imagine is repeated in the poem many times. It adds the effect that even though the poet is telling us many ways to make the world better it is still his imagination which means it is not likely that every citizen of the world will go hand in hand and follow John Lennon's dream. There are also stanzas in the poem which separates the poem and adds a dramatic effect to the poem and makes it look longer. There are also some rhyme schemes such as : do and too, sky and try, can and man. These rhymes do not add to the meaning of the poem in any way and some readers may not even notice them but they definitely make the poem run smoother and sound clean with any forced rhymes. Some people do not notice the literary devices in poems but day add emphasis, meaning and, overall, make the poem better.
