When she stroke the first match stick she saw her grandmother. Again she stroke all the match stick to see her grandmother for a long time. Than she asked her to take her with her grandmother.
When the girl lighted the first match it seemed to her as if she were sitting in front of a great iron stove with polished brass knobs and brass ornaments. It gave out such a lovely warmth.
She struck another matchstick the bricks of the wall became transparent , like gauze. She could see right through the room where a shining white cloth was spread on the table. It was covered with beautiful China and in the centre of it stood a roast goose, stuffed with prunes , and apples , steaming deliciously . The goose hope down from the dish , waddled across the floor with carving knife and fork in its back , waddled straight up to her and then out went the match .
She struck another match and suddenly was sitting under the most beautiful Christmas tree. A thousand candles lit up the green branches and gaily coloured balls looked down upon her. she reached forward with both hands and out went the match. The many candles on the tree rose higher and higher and turned into bright stars. One of them fell , streaking the sky with light.
She struck another match and saw her old grandmother . Fearing that she will vanish too she struck all of the matches at once and flew high up with her grandmother towards glory and joy.
