Ans 1 : heaps and heaps of gold here means that he was asking his mother what she wants and he firmly says heaps and heaps of gold.

Ans 2 : As the poet travelled to a strange land he was amazed by seeing many different things one was a big pearl which was as big of autumn raindrops .
