As much as I would want to help them at a personal level, I will refrain from doing that. Instead, I will try to help them through the right authorities. So, I will sign up as a volunteer with my town’s municipality and carry out the instructions issued by the municipal authorities. There are a number of reasons for not helping them personally. To begin with, refugees who move to another town in large numbers, are often known to create law and order problems. I do not wish to first give someone shelter in my home, then report them to the police on the basis of their actions or even suspicion. Also, the municipal corporation will have a better plan of handling the situation than I possibly can, on my own. Additionally, I would not want the refugees to be denied extra help from the town simply because they already have support from my family. Finally, our town administration will certainly need people to assist them in dealing with the situation, which is where I can help in a meaningful way.

On a personal level, I will be friendly, empathetic and understanding. I will also try to raise some funds for the refugees, but will not hand over the collections directly to them. Similarly, items of daily use, especially clothing, will be collected for their use. I will also try to collect stationery items, books and toys for the children, because it is important to keep the children busy. The material and amount collected will be handed over to the local town administration.
