Imagine that $1 = €1.40.

Sam spends €50 and has €34 left then option C is your answer. 60$ as He spend €50 as well as has left €34 so he started with €84 so as Given 1$= €1.40 and 1.40×$=84, $= 84/1.4, $= 60.

Dollars did he start with C. $60.

$1 = €1.40 (Given)

Find the amount of € he started with:

Amount spent = €34

Amount left = €50

Initial amount =  €50 +  €34 =  €84

Find the equivalent amount in $:

$1 = €1.40

€1.40 = $1

€1 = 1 ÷ 1.4 = $ 5/7

€84 = $ 5/7 x 84 = $60

Answer: (C) $60
