Answer:

Just three months after the Humboldt penguins were brought to the zoo in 2016, one of them died, posing several challenges for the authorities at Byculla zoo. So, it was a moment of joy for the authorities when a penguin was born at the zoo, the first in India, this week. Dr Sanjay Tripathi, Director, Byculla zoo, speaks to Mohamed Thaver about the journey so far and future plans.

The facilities  the zoo authorities have to provide to help them to adapt to the environment would be:

  • medical attention should be given to them at the earliest.
  • Temperature oscillates around the 37.8º-38.9º C of the penguins. So, the temperature should be maintained.
  • The environment should be fresh and never hot.
  • The pool's temperature must be according to the species of the penguin.
  • Adequate lighting, enough food, ice, and a pond with cold water should be stimulated at all costs.
  • They should be safe from any intrusion in the place where they live.

Special attention is needed for the penguins, and the rules and the regulation should be maintained.
