Space Traveller can detect the presence of magnetic field by attaching the coil of wire to galvanometer and rotate that attached coil continuously. If the magnetic field is present then due to magnetic flux in the magnetic field a current will get induced in the coil. The direction of the induced current in the coil can be given according to the Fleming's right hand rule.

Question: Imagine that a space traveller has landed on an unknown planet and he wants to detect the presence of magnetic field on this planet with help of a sensitive galvanometer and a coil of wire. Suggest how he can do that. Give reason for your answer. Name state the phenomenon related to the above situation. Write the name and state the rule that is used to determine the direction of current produced in the above phenomenon.

Solution: The space traveller should connect the coil with the glavanometer and rotate the coil. If the glavanometer shows defection, then magnetic field is present. This is because if magnetic field is present, there will be change of magnetic flux on rotating the coil. So, an induced current will flow.
