# What is rotation ? What is it's importance?

→ Rotation is a very important function , Rotation is spinning of Earth on its own orbit. The time taken to complete one rotation is approximately 24 hours.

Importance of rotation →

Rotation causes day and night , If the Earth didn't rotated , there would have day on one side and night on other side always and hence life wouldn't be possible on Earth , As one side would have destroyed due to being in continuous contact with sun and it would have became a Desert. On the other side , life would have ended due to inability of plants to produce oxygen by the process of photosynthesis as the plants require sunlight to do photosynthesis. So, life isn't possible without Rotation of Earth.

#What is revolution? why is it important?

→ Revolution is the going of Earth around the sun , this process takes approximately 365 days to complete.

Importance of Revolution→

As the Earth is tilted on its axis , when the Earth revolves there is a time period when upper part of Earth or Northern Hemisphere as we call it is in contact of direct sunlight which falls perpendicular to the Hemisphere but in Southern Hemisphere sunlight falls orientally . Due to this phenomenon upper part becomes comparatively warmer than the lower one and seasons occurs.

#What will happen if the Earth doesn't rotate , it just revolves?

→ If the Earth doesn't rotated and just revolved around the sun , Following would have consequences -

♦ As the rotation has stopped , One side of Earth will always face towards sun and as a result of which there will always be day on One side and night on the other side. But due to cotinous exposure of sun rays on one side , that area would have become desert and life completely destroyed , and you wouldn't have been there to ask this question and I wouldn't have been here to answer it either. Means , No rotation = No life.

♦ Rotation is responsible for many major wind system , if the rotation stops the wind systems reponsible for bringing monsoons to many places must have stopped and as a result no monsoons in many parts of the world.

♦ On the side where there is night , there would have been started an 'Ice Age' as everything must've frozen due to extreme cold .

♦ Earth's atmosphere would've been completely destroyed due to which no seasons.
