According to Chinese legend, Empress His Ling Shi was first person to discover silk as weavable fibre in the 27th century BC. Whilst sipping tea under a mulberry tree, a cocoon fell into her cup and began to unravel. From there, silken garments began to reach regions throughout Asia.

• On discovering the new fabric silk, it was another happy feeling as the fabric is the material from which any clothes are made up of.
• Silk is a light weighted and soft material that seems to have no weight when you wear it, so it was a great discovery.
• When silkworms spin themselves into a cocoon on their way to becoming silk moths, they create silk fibers.
• The raw, ultra-soft fibers are extracted from the cocoon by boiling it in hot water with live silkworms present and stirring it until the cocoons unravel.
• Mulberry leaves are fed to the larvae.
• They spin a cocoon after numerous rounds of molting.
• The pupae are killed by dropping the cocoon into a kettle of boiling water once it has been formed.
• The cocoon is brushed to remove the silk filament. This is the whole process of the formation of silk.
