Prior to New Delhi, the center of the city lay in the northern parts:

Chandni Chowk, Kashmere Gate and Civil Lines prospering with exchange and trade.

The little towns and villages in the southern piece of the city had a diverse gathering of networks living in them: Jats, Brahmins, Christians, Muslims and Gujjars.
