              Speech about the park:

Good morning to all of you! I am Viswash, the chief forest ranger over here. It is indeed a pleasure to have you all visit the Kaziranga National Park. The Park, as you all know, is the name to epitomise the most famous conservation efforts to save the rare and endangered species in India. Located in the Nagaon and Golaghat district of Assam, this most prominent wildlife sanctuary is was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985. Kaziranga is also a natural habitat of numerous endangered and rare species including Indian elephant, tiger, leopard, capped langur, water buffalo, swamp deer, hog deer, and several species of reptiles and birds. At present, Kaziranga National Park of Assam is facing numerous problems.

One is poaching, which is a major problems in Kaziranga. In fact, Kaziranga's rare horned Rhino population is the main target for poachers. Incidents of rhino poaching have increased in the past year because of increased demand and high prices for rhino horn on illegal markets. Even though we have been continuously fighting against the poachers still poaching continues, which is a matter of great concern. Kaziranga's annual characteristic is the flood.

Although it helps keep vegetation balance, the flood causes many side effects. Annual flooding causes confusion and disturbance throughout the entire park. It leads to various problems such as wildlife death, malnutrition, food shortages, road accidents, interruption of communication, infrastructure damage, siltation, accelerated erosion, and so on. In Kaziranga, rivers passing through the park are the main source of erosion. On the Brahmaputra River is the northern border of Kaziranga.

The area is affected annually by the flood. This causes bank erosion in this area to be severe. The National Park area is decreasing due to erosion. The size of the water bodies in the park is decreasing due to floods and siltation. The grasslands of herbivore animals are also affected by siltation. The yearly flood changes the park's geography and the loss of habitat by indigenous animals. Shrinking habitat is also responsible for the invasive species of weeds like water jacinth and mimosa.

Kaziranga lacks adequate infrastructure and manpower to monitor, manage and protect wildlife effectively. Modern weapons, cutting-edge communication systems and efficient transport means are not available to guards and frontline staff in Kaziranga. The watchtowers and camps are also not adequate. All of these have an effect on management and poaching. Kaziranga faces various problems because of its close proximity to human settlements. Examples of human interference-related issues: illegal animal pasture, unplanned tourism infrastructure, illegal fishing, tourist pressures, road traffic, crop raiding, and so on. Because of the government's lack of goodwill, land invasion continues in the area of Kaziranga.

Kaziranga is an asset of Assam. It is a rare place on Earth. That is why UNSECO had recognised it by including in the list of World Heritage Sites. Every one of us must realise this fact. Government agencies and local organisations and all citizens especially youth should work jointly in solving these problems. Public awareness should be increased so that everybody can offer their helping hands towards protecting this precious asset of ours. I am sure you all would agree with me and join hands in taking initiatives, even in a small way, to help us in protecting this park.
