Dear XYZ,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. Life has faced me with some interesting turns and events since the last time I wrote to you, so I thought of sharing with you the happenings of the past few weeks. As you know Avva is a big fan of Triveni’s writings and I have been reading out the episodes of Kashi Yatre to her regularly. One day she came up to me with this peculiar request to teach her how to read. You can imagine my surprise at her odd request; being sixty-two years old, I really did not think that the task would reach fruition.

Having set a task date from Saraswati Puja to Dussera as the deadline, despite my concerns and doubts, Avva turned out to be quite a diligent student, and showed steady progress. She surprised me with her willingness to learn, her perseverance, and her indomitable spirit. I secretly bought her a copy of Kashi Yatre as a gift for Dussera, and when I gave it to her she caught me by surprise and touched my feet. What she said to me next amazed me, she told me that she was touching my feet not because she considered me her grand-daughter but because I was her teacher, and a teacher irrespective of her age or gender should be revered.

The experience has been a life changing one for me, and it has taught me the value of education and self-reliance. Avva’s determination to not be dependent on anyone, and her hunger for knowledge, led her to accomplish an uphill task, which has really humbled me.
I would love to hear what you have to say about the incident.

Yours faithfully,
Oliver
