Answer:

One day I decided to go to meet the hermit as he was renowned for his wisdom. I went their alone and disguised as a commoner because the hermit received none but the common folk. When reached there, I found him digging beds for sowing seeds. He was looking frail and weak. I asked him, ' I have come to you, wise man, to ask you to my three questions. I narrated him my questions but he answered nothing and recommenced digging. I decided to take his spade to help him. After sometime I again repeated my questions but again the result was same. But at last, out of frustration, I stuck the spade and asked him again until a man came running out of the wood. He held his hands pressed against his stomach and blood was flowing from under them. The hermit and I managed to give him a first-aid and he gave him a place to sleep and I too slept on the threshold. The next morning, it was long before I could remember where I was, I saw the bearded man lying on the bed and gazing intently at me with shining eyes. He exclaimed to forgive him in a weak voice. On asking, I came to know that he was that enemy of mine who had planned to kill me because I had executed his brother and seized his property. But when the whole day passed and I did not return, he came out of his ambush and my bodyguards recognised him and wounded him. He thanked me for saving his life. Then I went outside and again met the hermit. I asked him the answers to my questions one last time and replied that I had already answered them. I was bewildered! Then he continued, ' Had you not pitied my weakness and had not dug those beds for me, but had gone your way, that bearded man would have attacked you and you would have repented for not having stayed with me. Thus, you were saved from being killed. At that time, I was the most important man and doing me good was your most important business. Same in the bearded man's case. At that time, he was the most important man and to do him good what your duty. This proves that only one time is important- the only time when we have any power. The most necessary man is he with whom you are, and to do him good is the most important affair because for that purpose alone was man sent into this life!'

I was flabbergasted on hearing the hermit's words. He taught me a very important lesson which I would never forget in my whole life!
