My Dear Savita,

How are you? Hope this letter finds you in the best of health and happiness.  You are very lucky that you do not have water shortage in your town. As you know Latur has been hit by drought and we have very little water. For the past few days even drinking water has become scarce and we can drink only one glass of water per day.

We hardly have water to bathe and wash clothes. The municipality has made some water available for cooking purposes only. After eating we have to wash our hands with just few spoons of water.

The central government sent the water train to our district. Everyone was very excited. It was a ray of hope to the thirsty people. It was announced that it would reach the next day at 12 noon. So people took huge water cans and sat near the crossroads where it was going to distribute water. They started gathering there from 12 midnight. By morning 6 o'clock the line was many kilometres long.

It was a long wait. We got tired sitting in the hot sun on the ground. The train arrived at 12 o'clock, we all jumped with happiness to see the water. The water really seemed to be like the life saving nectar. People's faces lit up with joy. It was 10 pm when my chance came to get my share of nectar - water. You can imagine how precious each drop seemed to be. My body was tired and painful but my heart danced to see the ambrosia after so many long days.

Hope the water scarcity gets over soon. How is everyone at home. Convey my love and regards to uncle and aunty.

                                                                               With love

                                                                                                  Your friend

                                                                                                     Sohini
