Answer:
I belonged to Santhal community during the British rule in India.
Almost every tribe had a tribal chief. our chief was Sidhu and kanhu murmu.
we lived in the forest we reared silkworm for the production of cocoons. we were self dependent.
At that time tribals lived in the forest, they earn their livelihood from there. but the Britishers declared the forest as state property.
under the British rule our chief lost all powers and were forced to follow the laws made by the British officers in India.
During 19th century when the demand for the forest produce increased the traders and the moneylenders took advantage of the situation, they went to the tribals and offer them cash loans they also asked them to work for wages.
when the demand for Indian silk increased the traders and many middleman gave us cash loans and collected cocoons from us and you will be surprised to know that they just paid rupees 3 for 1000 cocoons and then sold them at five times more.
The commercialization of agriculture and exploitation of forest wealth made us homeless and jobless.
