Explanation:
Three men on a motorbike snatched a handbag from a woman near the KG Marg-Mandi house crossing on Friday. The woman, who is the daughter of an employee at the vice-president’s house, was travelling in an autorickshaw when the men grabbed her bag and hurt her one-year-old daughter in the process. In her complaint, the woman said that she called for help and even tried chasing the snatchers in the autorickshaw, but they got away. “I was heading towards my home in Mandi house around 4.30pm, when three men on a motorbike snatched my handbag. The bag had some cash and a mobile phone. When I resisted, one of them pulled it away breaking the strap of the bag and hurt my daughter,” she said in her complaint. The snatchers drove towards ITO and fled before she could note down the registration number of the bike. She informed the police control room and her daughter was taken to a hospital to treat her injuries. Police are scanning footage from the CCTV cameras installed between Mandi House and Ferozshah Road to trace the men. Although there has been a spurt in crime around the police headquarters, cases of snatching are rare in the high security area. Police say the lack of stricter laws to prevent street crime makes it difficult for them to tackle the menace. They also claim the increase in snatching cases is a result of easier crime registration and does not reflect an increase in actual street crime.
