My (Calcium) experience when I dropped in water:

When I dropped in water, I react slow reacts slowly with water. This is in contrast with my colleague magnesium, who is above me in the periodic table, which is virtually nonreactive with cold water. The reaction between me and water forms calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2 and hydrogen gas (H2). I sinks in water and after an hour or so bubbles of hydrogen are evident, stuck to the surface of the me.

Ca(s) + 2H2O(g) → Ca(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)

Hope it helped............
