Today was a proud day for me. It was the day of the 'Spin-a-Yarn' competition. I and my teammates were determined to win a prize. Noticing our tense states of mind, our house teacher encouraged us to keep our hopes high no matter how much our nervousness threatens us.

When we heard our opportunity to speak, we went up to the stage. Now, the nervousness had transformed into the rush of adrenaline. We were given a topic and one minute to 'spin' a best story as a team and narrate it. When my turn to narrate came, there was a problem.

I realized that the story that we had prepared would end in my part only, which would leave the teammate who was after me, with the last part, no idea how to finish it. I started to cook up a scene, on the spot, that we had not decided on, that would probably not even look good. I was afraid I would stammer, but miraculously, my mouth just knew what to speak. I hoped that my teammate had paid attention to what I had narrated. Fortunately, he had! The story that we had spun turned out exceptional. We received a huge round of applause. The loudest claps was surely from our house teacher.

Soon after, the results were being announced. No, we did not win the first prize. We came second. But the house that had come first had done very well. I realized neither me nor my team cared at all. We were full of the joys of spring, happier than the winner team, not because we were second, but because we were such a beautiful team, our hard work had paid off.

I feel grateful to our teacher who was our precious compass throughout our journey, to my team, who had performed so well, and to God, for giving me His lovely gift. I know that today I will fall asleep just as my head hits the pillow.

Diary Entries

Writing a diary entry serves the purpose of expressing emotions bottled up inside of us. It is written in an informal language to our imaginary buddy: the diary. The format of a diary entry is as follows:

  • Day and date, written along the left margin of the page and time close to the right margin of the page.
  • Then, the body.
  • Your name.
