The French Revolution was an event of fundamental importance for the  people of France as well as rest of the world. In France the revolution  established the political supremacy of the middle class. Bulk of the  landed property was transferred to the peasantry. A new era of social  equality was started in France with the abolition of the feudal system.  Monarchy was abolished and France became a republic. In Asia and Africa there were struggles for Independence inspired by the  ideals of the French Revolution. In India we had Tipu Sultan and Raja  Rammohan Roy who were inspired by the ideals of the French Revolution.  The twentieth century marked the liberation of almost all the countries  of Asia and Africa that had been under colonial rule for centuries.
