The mighty rivers originating from the Himalayas like Ganges, Indus, etc. contribute to forming the plains in India which is highly fertile. The Himalayas obstruct the monsoon clouds. Hence, the plains are provided with a lot of rainfall.

Himalayas play a more than significant role in indian agriculture esp the north Indian floodplains.

They have played their part through the following:

1.Their glaciers like gangotri, yamnotri have provided the country with one of the largest river systems. Infact all three perenial water systems i.e. Indus, ganga and brahmaputra originate from himalayas. So in short they provide water for agriculture and throughout the year.

2.Since himalayas are young fold mountains and made of sedimentary rocks, the rivers see higher erosion and eventual floodplains are formed which happen to be the biggest agricultural states in the country

3.Western disturbance is inportant for rabi crops like wheat that provides the needed moisture.that happens due to himalayas and they prevent the extremely cold siberian winds from entering India that would otherwise make the northern plains as inhabitable.

4.They also act as a barrier for summer rainfall where the south west monsoon would have otherwise passed over from india and rained instead in china and tibet so the kharif crops are equally dependent on himalayas
