2. The British Empire in India was called the British “Raj” which lasted from 1858 to 1947.
3. When the Raj was formed in 1858 the British fought in what was called the Great Rebellion. This lasted nearly two years and cost the British £36 million.

5. Indians were exposed to Western culture. They were given access to new technological advances.
6. Indians were given a foothold in world trade, as they often were employed by British officials. They were given a united identity when rebelling against the British. They learned military tactics as sepoys under British Command.
7. The Indians have been following the British Legal System. This makes it easier to do business with International industries.
8. Cricket was introduced to the Indians via the British while the empire still stood. Now cricket is the main sport in India with the national team being arguably the best in the world.
9. Many sovereign Indian kingdoms were destroyed.
10. In the sepoy rebellion, thousands of people were killed, both Indians and British citizens.
11. Indian resources were often exploited for British profit.
12. Indians lost the ability to self govern, they had no say in the way they were ruled.
13. The two official languages in India are Hindi and English.
14. 80% of the Indian population knows how to speak English. It is the language taught in schools in India
15. Overall, both India and Britain are heavily influenced today by the impacts of colonization. While England has undoubtedly benefited more, India has gained much through the process.
