The pre-British period in Tamil Nadu was full of the caste system and the places were impoverished due to high taxes. The boys were educated exclusively. However, after the formation of the Madras Presidency by the British, the western education started seeping into the culture. English was taught in the schools because the Britishers thought it would be easy to for the Indians to learn English so that they could learn the truths and also help the Britishers to establish themselves.
Raja Ram Mohan Roy established the Hindu School which was tutoring English and other European languages to the students.
However, this led to discrimination as the school fees were high. This was to stop from a high influx of the students but that led to discrimination due to status and the caste system. The lower castes, financially weak and the minority communities could not make it to these schools and were denied proper education.
As the Brahmins were given preference, the non-Brahmins and other minority castes, along with the educated people rebelled against the double standards of the education system. They urged the philosophers to free them from the cruelty of the Britishers.
Grants and aids were provided by missionaries and other organizations to promote the English language learning to the pupils who could not afford to pay the fees. Later, the females education system also came into full force by the 20th century.
The western education helped in bringing out new ideas for the Indians and they learnt many things and realities. They started fighting for administrative services for the Indians and for a self-government and other liberties.

A substantial area of individuals in the west is joyful so they don't take much pressure identified with thinks about and take after what their brain says. Thusly in east or south-east for instance in India, a considerable measure of much pressure from childhood is available which holds on till your mid-twenties, for the most part, that is probably the reason that India is the biggest producer of engineers.
Western education presented in India out of the blue by Britisher. They needed to make a class "Indian in blood and color yet English in taste, in opinion, in moral and in intellect".The genuine thought process behind this isn't to teach masses yet to a specific class that would go about as a mediator amongst government and masses.
