After zygote is formed by fertilisation ,it undergoes mitotic cell division resulting in formation of embryo. This embryo then sinks down and gets implantated in the thick lining of the uterus. This is known as implantation. The embryo develops in the mothers uterus for 9 months .This period is known as gestation period. Strong rhythmic muscular contraction in uterus cause child birth to take place.(parturition)
