The Importance of Morning Prayer

Morning prayer can be a tremendous source of power in the life of the Christian who has resolved to meet God daily. When you does so, you are certain to find that every assurance and promise given in Scripture is true. Having said that, I would now like to briefly discuss what types of things you should pray about in the morning before beginning the day’s activities.

First, secure the presence of God. Don’t go any further until you feel that God is looking down at you with eyes of love, that He is listening to your prayer, and that His Holy Spirit is working in you.

Second, renew your resolve every morning to obey Christ absolutely, and tell God that you want to walk faithfully in all His teachings during the day you are about to begin. In your prayer, ask and receive in faith the very grace and power you are especially in need of. As you start each day, firmly resolve that your guiding principle throughout the day will be to walk faithfully with God.

Third, confess your sins openly to God. Let your confession of sin be very definite. Resolve to pluck out and cut off of everything that has been grieving God. Let any prayer for grace or for a holy walk be specific also.

Fourth, intercede on behalf of others. In His relationship with the Father, Jesus did all things for the benefit of others. This same spirit should flow through every member of Christ’s body here on earth. The more we recognize this and mold our lives accordingly, the more our life will be in harmony with what God wishes to make it. Therefore, the highest type of prayer is intercession. Accordingly, if we only use prayer as a means of personal improvement and joy, we will never know its full power. Furthermore, when you intercede for others, let it be a genuine real longing for the souls of those we pray for. The Scriptures tell us that we are a royal priesthood, a priestly people.
