Bassanio seems to marry Portia so that he can inherited her wealth , improve his financial prospects and repay his debts . However his true love for Portia is revealed in the casket scene when he chooses the lead casket instead of gold and silver ones. It is proves that he is a true lover who is not deceived by outward appearances. However, later in the play, his correct choice of the casket reveals his deep and true love for Portia.True to the words written on the lead casket - " Who chooseth me must give and hazard all he hath " , Bassanio puts everything he has at stake to win Portia 's hand .This demonstrates his intense love for Portia.
