One of the best things, or probably the best thing, the British rulers left for us was English language and the added bonus was that it was spread across India. Today, the highest English speaking population living in any single country reside in India. Even though Bangladesh and Pakistan were a part of united India, they failed to retain this strength as they are unilingual, generally using Bengali and Urdu. So, multiplicity of Indian languages has helped the cause of English and it has spread widely.
Doctors, Engineers, Administrators and IT professionals interact with people from diverse backgrounds, who speak different languages. A sound knowledge of English language becomes a handy tool in their communication process. This not only helps them locally, but also when they interact with foreigners.
