DECOMPOSITION REACTIONS:-

The reactions in which a compound breaks up into two or more simpler substances are called decomposition reactions.

It takes place when energy is supplied in the form of heat, light, electricity or catalyst. It is reuse of combination reaction.

USES OF DECOMPOSITION REACTIONS:
. For the extraction of metals from naturally occurring compounds like oxides and chlorides. The process in vowed is termed as metallurgical processes.

i. ZnCo3 (s) –> Zno (s) + CO2 (g)

Zinc carbonates-> Zinc oxide+ Carbon dioxide.

 II. In electrolysis of molten oxide

e.g. 2Al2o3 electricity 4Al + 3O2

Aluminum Oxide --->     Aluminum+ Oxygen

2Nacl Electricity 2Na + Cl2

Sodium chloride---> sodium metal+ chlorine.

Since decomposition reactions take place with the absorption of energy in the form of heat, electricity and sunlight. That is why they are endothermic reaction.
