Fossils are dead remains of organisms which exist between rock formations.
Fossils tell us about sailent features of that organism so that we can identify organisms related to them in evolutionary terms.
Eg. If fossil have a reptile like structure with wing like formation
then we could understand that snakes and birds are related in evolutionary terms
