The Tiruchi City Corporation (TCC), which has already begun steps to compete with the other cities in the country to go up in the nationwide clean city ranking, on Tuesday began cleanliness drive in heritage places and monuments in the city as part of the nationwide drive between April 16 and April 30.

The drive is being organised in the city as per the direction of Ministry of Urban Development.

It will be carried out in Sri Ranganathar temple, Srirangam, Sri Singaperumal temple, Thiruvanaikoil, Sri Akilandeshwari and Jambukeshwarar temple, Thiruvanaikoil, Amma Mandapam Padithurai, St. Joseph’s Church, Teppakkulam, Rockfort Thayumanavaswamy temple and Natharsha Pallivasal. On the first day of the drive, about 100 sanitary workers of corporation cleaned the premises of Sri Erumbeswarar Temple in Thiruverumbur on Tuesday. Spanned into different groups, they removed garbage, eatables, plastics and others. The plants grown on the campus were removed.
