It strives to solve petty criminal and civil cases. The parties in dispute explain their sides to the members of the Panchayat.They have the power to impose small fines, but their power is limited as they cannot send people to jail. Their main aim is to provide cheap and quick justice. In case if any side remains unsatisfied they can appeal to the District or High Court.
