The red data book is used for recording or keeping a track of all those endangered species of animals and also the local species which live around a specific town, this also has a record of species which are threatened.

This book is usually maintained by IUCN( the international union for the conservation of nature) and is about the animals who will go extinct in some time and they are mostly wild animals of a particular habitat.

Red data book is also established by government of a state or country for documenting rare and endangered species of animals, plants and fungi as well as some local sub-species that exist within the territory of the respective state or country. This book provides central information for studies and monitoring programs on rare and endangered species and their habits.

a global list (Red List) of endangered and threatened species is also produced and regularly updated by the World Conservation Union (International Union for Conservation of Nature). It contains color‐coded information sheets arranged by species: red for species that are endangered, amber for vulnerable, white for rare, green for out of danger, and grey for species that are indicated to be endangered, vulnerable, or rare but with insufficient information to be properly classified. The three main groups of categories are threatened, unknown, and not threatened.
