Heya!!
Standard time has a great importance in any place or any country. This helps us the whole country to follow the same time. Many countries have great longitudinal extension so there may occur the confusion of time as time would we diff atany places in a country. Then a central longitude is chosen and it's time is followed throughout the country to avoid confusion.
For India , The standard time is that of longitude of Allahabad because it's the central longitude of the country.

IST is a meridian of longitude . It is at a distance of 82.5 degree from the Greenwich Towards the east . It passes through Allahabad which is the approximately center of In8.

IMPORTANCE:-
This meridian of longitude is 5 and a half hours ahead from the time at Greenwich . India has the IST as it's standard time because if it would not have been there the country would have difference of 2 hours as india is the largest country and has a East - West extents there's a difference of 2 hours from gujarat in the West to Assam in the east .
