Standing waves / stationary waves are waves whose amplitudes are at each different point (as opposed to waves). Stationary
waves are also called standing or upright waves, a wave type whose waves
do not move through the medium, but remain stationary. A stationary wave is generated when a running wave is reflected back along its own path.
