Sterilization is the killing or removal of all microorganisms including bacterial spores which are highly resistance. 

Disinfection is the killing of many but not all microorganism, It is process of reduction of the number of contaminating organism to a level that can not cause infection, like pathogens must be killed.

Disinfectants are chemical that are used for disinfection.

Sterilization is used during surgical procedures.  Aprons,syringe,  gloves, surgical  instruments have to be sterilized.

Sterilization in microbiological works like preparation of culture media, reagents, equipment's where by sterilized need to be maintained.
