Hello there!

Generally, genetic variation is important for the survival of all species (plants and animals) so that they will not become extinct.

Genetic variation is simply the differences in each individual in terms of alleles.

Through this genetic variation, some animals have better immune system, or longer limbs, faster runners compared to the others. The same concept can be applied to plants as well (taller, or more resistant to pests).

In plants for example, if a pest was to attack a field full of rice with no genetic variation then all the plants would die when attacked.

However, in the presence of genetic variation, some plants could be immune to the pest. These "immune" plants will survive and reproduce, producing offspring with stronger immune system also.

Because of this, the rice plants will surive and not become extinct.

I hope this will help you!

Answer:

The presence of genetic variation in plant populations is useful for conservation and breeding programs

genetic diversity is a measure of genetic differences between animals in a population

Explanation:

Importance of plant breeding:

The presence of genetic variation in plant populations is useful for conservation and breeding programs . plant genetic diversity offers opportunity for researchers to develop new improved varieties with desirable traits, which accommodates both farmers and breeders .

genetic variation in the group of organisms enables some organisms to survive better than others in the environment in which they live. it utilizes the genetic variation between individuals within a plant species and combines the desired properties into new and improved varieties.

Importance of animal breeding:

genetic diversity is a measure of genetic differences between animals in a population. livestock population provide people with a variety of products and services, including meat, milk, eggs and fibre.

the assessment of livestock population and their production environments to establish their current status and identify strengths that can be enhanced and weakness that need to be overcome.
