In South India especially in Tamilnadu , the classical dance form "bharatanatyam" . evolved as a temple dance. The chola rulers patronised this dance ,it is a beautiful form of dance and requires precise hand and foot movements along with expressions renered through eyes and lips. It is the oldest dance form of India the costume used in this dance is coloured and rich.

In a North India Kathak evolve as a distinct dance form. The term Kathak is derived from the word "Katha" which means story.
