1.) Metaphor == A metaphor is a kind of comparison but it establishes a total indentify between two objects qualities or actions it is not indicated by like or as

EXAMPLE = (i) two roads diverged in a yellow wood and sorry I could not travel both (the road not taken)
(ii) all the world's a stage ( The seven stages)

2.) rhyme == rhyme refers to the quality shared by words that have, or end with, the same sound as each other. such words are often used at the end of the lines of a poem Such as day away , song along etc.,

3.) rhythm == Rhythm implies a sound pattern it how to match the sense.

EXAMPLE =
COME BACK ! COME BACK ! HE CRIED IN A GRIEF
ACROSS THE STORMY WATER
AND I'LL FORGIVE YOUR HIGHLAND CHIEF
MY DAUGHTER ! OH MY DAUGHTER !

4.) personification == when A poet treats a non living thing or an idea as a living being having human activities on feelings he uses what we call personification.

EXAMPLE == IN THE POEM THE BROOK.

I CAME FROM HAUNTS OF COOT AND THEM
I MAKE A SUDDEN SALLY

- Literary terms are used in Poems to make it more attractive, that is, to distinguish it from story and poem ;)

- Literary terms are also called 'POETIC DEVICES'.

- It may come in exams. So, its important to know some common and important literary terms/ poetic devices.

- Some common & important poetic devices are :

☆ Alliteration : In Poems, the poet uses some words which have the same initial sound.
> For e.g. : Field Fallow - in these, 'F' sound is repeated in both.

☆ Simile : Its often used to compare something with something ;p
> for e.g. : creeping like a snail

☆ Rhyming scheme : Its often a rule of poem. To mark it's time, Rhyming scheme is used.
> e.g. : Alone she cuts, and binds the 'grain'
And sings the melancholy 'strain'
Here, strain grain are rhythmic.

☆ Metaphor : Resembles to simile, but it's like something having more similarities.
> e.g. : Roads are fascinating metaphors of life . Roads diverging can be compared with Choices of one's life.

☆Refrain : It is often repeated to maintain the musical tone and unity if the poem.
> for e.g. : In poem, brook , for men may come and men may go, but I go on gorever.

☆Personification. : It is a poetic device in which an inanimate object is made to be appear as a living creature.
> for e.g. : In poem, brook is personified.

☆ Imagery : Something that can be perceived through more than one senses. It uses figurative language to help form mental pictures.
> for e.g. , in poem Lord ullin's daughter, 'water- warmth was shrieking' conveys the anger.

☆ Idioms : Are metaphorical expressions rather than literal.
> For example, once in a blue moon, doesn't mean that one cames only on blue moon day, but it means, very rarely.
