Machilipatnam, which is also referred to as Bandar or Masulipatnam, is a foremost port city as well as an administrative center of Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh. The city is nestled on the southeastern or Coromandel Coast of India. Macchilipatnam is very popular worldwide not only because of its rich historical background, which was dominated by the Dutch, French and British. It was the major gateway of their sea trade and thus, it has been maintaining special significance for both national and international travelers.

Hope this helps.

The town of masulipatnam or machilipatnam which means "fish port town"is situated on the banks of river Krishna in Andrea Pradesh. It derived it's name from the gateway to the town which was decorated with the eyes of a fish. Machilipatnam was a part of the Golconda empire and was their main port . machilipatnam lost his prosperity and former position as trade post and declined in the course of the 18th century.Today it's nothing more than a small town....
