To celebrate the birth anniversary of O'Henry, one of the greatest American short story
the United States information service in Kolkata presented a programme based on one of
short stories in the Lincoln Room on Thursday, October 30 at 2 p.m. Shri N Bhattacharya, ap
of English and a great short story writer, spoke on O'Henry. His speech was followed by a
Ransom of Red Chief (27 mins). The story concerns two men who kidnap the son of a banker
to finance a loan scheme. But their plans produce an unexpected result as the kidnapped boys
delight in tormenting his kidnappers. When the kidnappers go to the predetermined place to
ransom money, they find an envelope which contains a great surprise for them. All were entert
