The love story of Lorenzo-Jessica holds immense importance in the play. Even though their relationship, made Shylock become more revengeful and relentless but this love story shows true spirit of love.
Jessica is the daughter of Shylock who is a Jew. He is a staunch believer and hates the Christians. He would have never allowed her daughter to marry a Christian. However, she elopes with Lorenzo to prove the truthfulness of their love.
By this love story, Shakespeare indicates that love is not restricted by anything. Even though, they both belong to different religions they are in love and together. This proves that love is beyond religious and social boundaries.
