Answer: The cell was first discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665 using a microscope, it was discovered when he was observing a piece of cork through his microscope. He found that cork was made of small chambers surrounded by walls. He called these chambers as Cells.

I am in 8th standard and have recently read this chapter.

Robert Hooke was looking  at a piece of cork with the recently invented magnifying glass. (at that period of time it was recently invented)

When he looked at the piece of cork closely, he saw small compartments each different in shape a little bit. All the compartment were separated with a division or a border.

He named those compartments as Cells.

The compartments he was looking at were dead cells of tree cork
