The reason for this is as follows:
1. Many water borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, cholera etc... are developed and spread in areas with open manholes, sewers and drainage systems. Improvement in sanitation can prevent these diseases.
2. Sometimes, people fall in the open manholes and hurt themselves. So, the coverage of these manholes can prevent certain accidents.
3. A longtime ago, a sewer near the Ganga river was opened by some chaotic people and all the sewage and waste water flowed in the river. In this way the river was polluted. It was reported that the sewer was fake and it was draining all the waste in the Ganga since a long time. Therefore, improvements in sanitation can save many people’s lives and the future generations.
