The marks obtained by him in English is 100

Solution:

Let the marks in history be "x"

Imran got two and a half times as many marks in English as in History

Therefore,

\text{Marks in english } = 2\frac{1}{2}\ \times x\\\\\text{Marks in english } =\frac{5}{2}x

Total marks in the two  subjects are 140

Therefore,

x + \frac{5}{2}x = 140\\\\2x+5x = 280\\\\7x = 280\\\\x = 40

Hence,

\text{Marks in english } =\frac{5}{2}x = \frac{5}{2} \times 40 = 100

Thus, the marks obtained by him in English is 100
