In 10 complete rotations, the distance moved on the linear scale is 1 cm. There are 100 divisions on circular scale. When the gap AB is just closed, the 95th division of circular scale coincides with the reference line. While measuring the diameter of a wire, the linear scale reads 2 mm and 45th division on the circular scale coincides with the reference line. Find cross-sectional area of the wire.
(a) 3.8 cm2
(b) 0.049 cm?
(c) 0.098 cm?
(d) 0.45 cm2

Answer:

Least count =

 \frac{1mm}{100}   = .01mm

Diameter = M. S. +( No. of division coinciding with main scalex Least count.)

= 1 mm + 47 x 0.01 mm

= 1.47 mm = 0.147 cm.

Curved surface area = πdL =

 \frac{22}{7}

1.47* 5.6 -2.6cm²
